Aloha! My name is Rita and I am an island girl living the city life. I teach Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga, and am Reiki Level I & II attuned.
I grew up in a military family and have lived in several places including Florida, the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, Hawaii, New York City and now in northern Virginia. Physically being in different environments allowed me to easily adjust and adapt to change.
I am passionate about being outdoors, hiking, surfing, appreciating mother nature and surrounding myself around amazing people. I knew yoga would be another passion of mine and a very important part of my life since attending my first yoga class over in Hawaii. Yoga helps me feel centered and grounded. I turn to yoga to calm my mind through everyday challenges and working in an intense corporate world. I apply the yoga teachings, philosophy, and asanas as I navigate through life and I hope to share my experiences with you.
I am a RYT-500 and RPYT with the Yoga Alliance. I completed my 200-hour training in Rishikesh, India at Shiva Yoga Peeth and 300-hour training in Brooklyn, New York at Shaktibarre. I have a curious mind and my continued education certifications are from:
- The Veterans Yoga Project Mindful Resilience Training and Compassion Fatigue Training
- Connection Coalition Trauma Informed Outreach Training
- LoveYourBrain Yoga for Traumatic Brain Injury Training
- Shaktibarre Blissflow Training
- The Roll Model® Method and Roll Model® Mama Training
- Pre/Postnatal Education for Group Fitness Instructors through ProNatal Fitness
- Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training with Clare Ryan
- Corporate Yoga Teacher Training with Samantha Harrison
- I was initiated in the First and Second Degree of Reiki, the Usui System of Natural Healing (Usui Shiki Ryoho), administered by Brian Brunius from the NYC Reiki Center.
I am here to share stories, talk about life, and create a comfortable and open space to guide you in your yoga practice.
I have always had a soft spot for our military service men and woman and am very proud to be part of the Veterans Yoga Project. The Veterans Yoga Project's mission is to support recovery and resilience among our veterans, active duty military members, their families, and communities.
